TFD Opinions: The Presidential Late Entrant Myth
Rick Perry entered the presidential race in August last year and looked like the GOP savior for 2012 that would save the party from holding their noses and voting for Mitt Romney. Perry immediately soared into the lead and looked like he was going to take Iowa and South Carolina and be off to the races. Then Rick Perry opened his mouth...and the results were bad. Perry immediately allowed his opponents to cast him as liberal on certain issues and went on to make a number of embarrassing gaffes that turned him from frontrunner to laughing stock. When Perry dropped out of the race last month, it was another data point for the myth that late entrants to the presidential race can't win.
TFD Opinions: It's Okay That Iowa and New Hampshire Go First
The first month of primaries is finished and Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida are the only ones that have voted yet the race is essentially over with Mitt Romney as a strong favorite to win the nomination despite winning just 2 of the 4. States have repeatedly tried to move up and reform the process but the parties have smacked them down and handed out penalties to misbehaving states. So why is it okay that Iowa and New Hampshire get all the glory and influence?
