TFD Opinions: In Defense of Herman Cain's Apples and Oranges

I'm no fan of the 999 plan or 909 plan or pretty much anything Herman Cain says. However, his Apples and Oranges argument somehow made sense. If you're not familiar with it, Herman Cain's 999 plan was criticized at the debate on Tuesday because people would still have to pay state sales tax so in theory they'd be paying around 6-10% more on top of the 9% federal sales tax that Herman Cain would implement if his plan passed. Cain responded by saying that they're comparing apples to oranges and he's right.

TFD Opinions: Herman Cain's 909 Plan is Even Worse Than the 999 Plan

After facing criticism that his 999 plan was too tough on the poor, Herman Cain "clarified" his plan today by announcing that for poor people, the plan would actually be 909. This means that poor people would not pay an income tax. Ignoring the fact that this is slowly hacking away at the idea of a flat tax and back toward the progressive system that we already have, it's also either profoundly stupid or a noteworthy revenue loss. There are 2 different possibilities for how he's going to accomplish the 909 effect.
